State to liberalise energy sector, attract more players

Government will soon revise the electricity and the energy regulation Acts to liberalise the energy sector in a quest to attract more players in the market,
Deputy Minister of Mines, Energy and Water Development Charles Zulu has said.
Mr Zulu said with only 25 percent of the population having access to electricity 50 years after independence, there is need for private participation in the provision of electricity hence the need for the revision of the Acts that will ensure liberalisation and independent regulation of the energy sector.
He said this yesterday at the first Zambia International Energy Conference in Lusaka whose theme is `Power and renewable energy: unlocking Zambia’s investment and growth potential at 50’.
