Sata Books of condolences opened

The Government has opened Books of condolences for the late President Michael Sata at Government House in Lusaka.

Acting President Guy Scott led Cabinet Ministers and their deputies, Permanent Secretaries and other senior government officials in signing the books of condolences at Government House this afternoon.

Dr. Scott who was in the company of Education Minister Dr. John Phiri, Local Government Minister Emmanuel Chenda, Community Development Minister Emerine Kabanshi and her Health counterpart, Dr. Joseph Kasonde arrived at Government House at about 12:25 hours to sign the book before addressing the media.

Agriculture Minister Wylbur Simuusa, Information and Broadcasting Services Minister Joseph Katema, Lands Minister Mwansa Kapeya, Commerce Minister Robert Sichinga, Sports Minister Chishimba Kambwili, Southern Province Minister Daniel Munkombwe and his Copperbelt counterpart Mwenya Musenge also signed the books of condolences.

Others who signed the book are Education Deputy Minister David Mabumba, Secretary to the Cabinet Rowland Msiska, Attorney General Musa Mwenye, North Western Province Permanent Secretary Amos Malupenga and Local Government Permanent Secretary, Stanford Musichili.

And Dr. Scott has called for peace and unity during the 14-day period of national mourning ahead of the transition period.

The Acting President said members of all political parties, both the opposition and ruling party are expected to attend the funeral in peace without campaigning.

Dr. Scott said law enforcement officers will be vigilant and on high alert to ensure that the mourning period is not disturbed by campaigns by both the ruling and opposition party cadres.

He said he wants to leave a legacy of peace and unity during his reign as President in the transition period.

He urged the ruling party to maintain and embrace peace and ensure that there is no violence during the mourning period.

He stated that during this mourning period there will be no cabinet meetings and that the mourning period will end after the burial of the late Head of State on November 11, 2014.

Government has declared 14 days of national mourning following the death of President Michael Sata 28th October 2014 and will be buried on November 11 at Embassy Park in Lusaka.

The late President’s remains will arrive at the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport tomorrow after which the body will lay in State at the Mulungushi International Conference Center until November 11 during which period members of the public will pay their last respects.
