Kampyongo warns against lawlessness in the country

Home Affairs Deputy Minister Stephen Kampyongo has warned that the demise of President Michael Sata should not be used as a period of committing crime and embezzling public funds.

Mr. Kampyongo, who is Patriotic Front (PF) Shiwangandu Member of Parliament, said he has instructed the police and other law enforcement officers to be on high alert during the 15 day national mourning as some people may take advantage of the situation.

Mr. Kampyongo said the late President Sata should be mourned with respect and dignity in accordance with what the office of president deserves.

The Deputy Minister was speaking on Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) special interview monitored by ZANIS in Lusaka today.

And Mr. Kampyongo has warned politicians in the country not to use the mourning period to gain political mileage.

The body of the late President Sata, who passed away on Tuesday October 28, 2014 in London, will arrive in the country tomorrow 1st November at the Kenneth Kaunda international airport at 10:00 hours.

Government has announced a 14-day national mourning period in honour of President Sata.

Acting President Guy Scott would lead government officials, military personnel and family members among other several mourners to receive the body at the airport.

A military escort would lead the funeral cortege to Mulungushi International Conference Centre where the Acting President is expected to lay a wreath in a brief wreath laying ceremony.

Body viewing will commence on Sunday 2nd November and members of the
public are encouraged to pay their last respects to the late Head of State at Mulungushi Internationmal Conference Centre.

Mr. Sata’s body will then lie in state at Mulungushi International Conference Centre until Sunday 9th November, 2014.

Books of condolences have been opened at Government House in Lusaka, provincial administration centres in the provinces, districts and at Zambian missions abroad.

Government has also earmarked Belvedere lodge in Lusaka as the funeral place for close relatives while other mourners are encouraged to assemble at the Agricultural and Commercial Show Grounds where sermons will be conducted and solemn music played.

The late President will be buried on Tuesday 11th November, 2014 at the Embassy Park opposite Cabinet Office in Lusaka.

The late Head of State leaves behind a spouse, Dr. Kaseba, children and several grandchildren.
