DEC nabs 35 countrywide for  drug trafficking

 

Lusaka, October 31st, 2014, ZANIS —   The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC ) says it has in the last three  arrested over thirty five (35) people countrywide for unlawful cultivation and trafficking in various quantities of cannabis.

 


Those arrested and jointly charged include Bridget Kabunda, 24, of Makilinto village in Chikankata District and Goodfellow Kabunda, 56, of Hamwete village for unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants weighing 621.4kg.

 


This is contained in a statement by the DEC public relations unit, today.

 

Also arrested is Jackson Ngandu, 34, of Yonda village in Samfya District for trafficking in 30.15kg of loose cannabis, John Kapya, 29, a peasant farmer of Musaila village in Samfya District for unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants weighing 15.3kg and Charity Musonda, 40, of Nchembwa village in Kapiri Mposhi for trafficking in loose cannabis weighing 12.2kg.

 


On the Copperbelt the Commission has arrested Mwamba Mutale, 47, of Zone 127 Kamatipa compound in Kitwe for trafficking in 1.5kg of loose cannabis and Mariana Ngandwe of the same abode for trafficking in 1.1kg of loose cannabis.

 


And in Lundazi District the Commission has arrested Gerald Sakala, 44, a peasant farmer of Ching’oma village for trafficking in 7.2kg of loose cannabis.

 


Others arrested and jointly charged in Lundazi District are Alfred Mwale, 30, a peasant farmer of Kauta village and Chaipa Banda, 28, a peasant farmer of Chandula village for trafficking in loose cannabis weighing 6.8kg.

 


All suspects will appear in court soon.
