The Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) has warned of stern action against motorists who will be found flouting road traffic regulations with impunity during the independence golden jubilee celebrations.

RTSA Chief Executive Officer Zindaba Soko said the agency wants to ensure that road safety takes centre stage before during and after the independence golden jubilee celebrations.

Mr. Soko said the law enforcement officers that will conduct spot checks, speed management and screening of drinking and driving drivers have already been deployed along all the high ways across country.

In a statement issued to ZANIS in Lusaka today, Mr. Soko has since cautioned all road users to among other road safety regulations observe lower speeds and not to drink and drive.

Mr. Soko said the target for RTSA was to record an accident free independence golden jubilee period.

He pointed out that the agency was working round the clock to ensure that road traffic accidents are reduced in the country.

And Mr. Soko has disclosed that RTSA has drawn up educational and traffic enforcement activities that will ensure that there was sanity on the public roads during the independence jubilee period.

Mr. Soko said the agency has also drawn up a proactive and tentative enforcement programme that will go beyond the celebration period.

Meanwhile, Mr. Soko has advised members of the public to report motorists flouting road traffic regulations by calling the RTSA toll free line 983 on all mobile telecommunication networks.
