Tanzanian nationals plead guilty to illegal Mukula possession

Luwingu, 21 October, 2014-ZANIS– Two Tanzanian nationals arrested for being in possession of 160 logs of Mukula tree have pleaded guilty in the Luwingu magistrates court.

Appearing before magistrate Davy Simfukwe were Dickson Davies Emmanuel 34 and Paulo Mulungu Mbonje 38 both of Dar-es-salaam who took their plea this morning.

The duo pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful possession of biological resources namely logs of Mukula tree contrary to section 120 (b) of the environmental management act number 12 of 2011 of the laws Zambia.

Particulars of offence were that Dickson and Paulo on 16th October 2014 jointly and whilst acting together were found in possession of 160 logs of Mukula tree without authority.

“Yes,  We were found in possession of Mukula tree in question and I had no License to deal in. I had no lawful justification for having in my possession of 160 logs of Mukula tree which I wanted to ferry to Dar-es-salaam in Tanzania,” the duo admitted.

The duo were arrested after the Scania truck registration number T481 BTD and trailer registration number T546 BTU they were driving was loaded with logs of Mukula tree along Mansa-Luwingu road after a tip off from members of the public.

Magistrate Simfukwe has adjourned the matter to a later date for judgment.
