Man drinks self to death, consumed six bottles of brandy

A CHILILABOMBWE man has died after consuming six bottles of brandy.
Copperbelt deputy Police Commissioner Mukuka Chewe named the deceased as Saidi Sakala, 40, of Minestone Market area at Kasumbalesa border.
Mr Sakala was found unconscious in his motor vehicle, Toyota Corolla registration number ALV 3056 on Sunday morning.
Mr Sakala had gone for a drinking spree at a place known as Chililabombwe Square where it is believed he consumed six bottles of brandy.


“I can confirm that we have an incident in Chililabombwe where a man has died after taking six bottles of Bols Vodka around midnight on Sunday,” he said.
After taking alcohol, Mr Sakala, who was in a drunken state, was helped to get into his car at Chililabombwe Square by his brother-in-law, Maybin Kabwe.
He was found unconscious around 08:00 hours at Kasumbalesa border.
Meanwhile, a woman of Chingola has died after being electrocuted while hanging clothes.
Theresa Mpundu of Kapisha Township was electrocuted while hanging her clothes on the washing line.


Mr Chewe said Ms Mpundu of 152, Aggrey Mulala Road, was electrocuted on Saturday and died on the spot.
The deceased’s mother, Bibiana Chipanta, 60, reported the incident to the police.
Police suspect the line where she was hanging her clothes was close to an electricity cable.
In another incident, a 51-year-old man of Mulundu Township in Mufulira has sustained injuries after being attacked by another man who went away with K750.
Chitomombo Mupeta was attacked on Saturday around 15:30 hours by an unknown man who beat him using a bamboo stick before getting away with his money.
Mr Mupeta sustained injuries and police have since launched a manhunt for the suspected thief.
