A 45-YEAR-OLD pastor of Kawama township in Kitwe has pleaded guilty to falsifying a value added tax (VAT) certificate.
This is in a case in which Roderick Kapungwe of house number KS40/60 is charged with making a document without lawful authority.
It was alleged that Kapungwe, on dates unknown but between April and October this year in Kitwe, jointly and whilst acting together with others unknown with intent to deceive, made a VAT certificate without lawful authority.
Kapungwe admitted the charge when he appeared for plea before Kitwe senior resident magistrate Daniel Musonda on Friday.
He said he had no authority to make such a document and that he did so with intent to deceive.
In the second count, Kapungwe is accused of uttering a false document.
It is alleged that Kapungwe between April and October this year in Kitwe,  knowingly and willingly uttered a VAT certificate  number 10371411/33 to Bruce Chileshe purporting that  it was genuine when in fact not.
Kapungwe admitted the charge but said he did not know that the document was forged.
Mr Musonda recorded a plea of not guilty because of Kapungwe’s explanation that he did not know that the document was not genuine.
Mr Musonda adjourned the case to tommorow for written facts in the first count and setting of trial date in respect of count two.
