Chief Nzamane of the Ngoni speaking people in Eatern province has appealed to the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) to pay farmers in his chiefdom who supplied maize to the agency.

Chief Nzamane said the farmers have waited for their payment for a long time now hence his appealed to government to fund the agency.

He told ZANIS that it was not fair for the farmers to start borrowing money for their families’ upkeep when they sold maize to FRA.

The traditional leader further lamented that the farmers need to plan
in advance for the next farming season.

Chief Nzamane noted that the delay to pay the farmers was frustrating them.

But Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Wylbur Simuusa assured the farmers that they would be paid their money soon. He said the delay was caused by the agency’s delay to take the banking sheets to named financial institutions.
