Luano chiefs advised to sensitise subjects on title deeds

Luano, Oct 9/14, NAIS-ZANIS———-Chiefs have been called upon to assist their subjects with the processing of title deeds for farming land acquired in their chiefdoms.

Luano District Junior Technical Officer, Joseph Mazila made the appeal when District Agriculture Officers met with farmers’ representatives in Chikupili chiefdom of Luano district.

Mr Mazila said traditional leaders play a critical role in the application and processing of title deeds for land acquired by their subjects in their chiefdoms.

He further stated that the resistance being exhibited by some of the chiefs may be as a result of lack of information on the importance of having title to land by chiefs.

Mr Mazila assured the farmers that his department would embark on a sensitisation program in all chiefdoms of Luano district, to make chiefs understand their role in land matters.

In response, the farmers, through their representative, David Tuyu, called on the district officials to expedite the sensitisation program in the area as farmers were eager to have title deeds for their farm plots processed.
