Health Minister Joseph Kasonde reaffirmed government’s pledge of pursuing Malaria to a point of elimination.

Dr. Kasonde says government is already making progress to this effect.

He says interventions that have been put in place thus far are campaigns that are being undertaken in different provinces of the country and also the availability of mosquito nets among other things.

Dr. Kasonde says government has also invested in the procurement and distribution of essential medical supplies, laboratory supplies and other things required for basic health care needs of Zambians.

He says this in addition to the work that Medical Stores Limited (MSL) has been charged to do of ensuring that there is availability of drugs across the country.

The Health Minister says government has further made investments in health workers for quality and efficient service delivery.

He notes that in the case of nurses, in 2007 the output of nurses was 1552 but that the number has increased to over 2000 while registered midwives inn the country have also increased from 2000 in 2007 to 2500 in 2012.
