Growing witchcraft practice scares away teachers in Chief Mukonchi’s area in Kapiri Mposhi district

 

 

Kapiri Mposhi, 2 October, 2014, ZANIS — Teachers and their Families at Kakwelesa Basic School in Chief Mukonchi’s area in Kapiri Mposhi district have fled the learning institution for fear of witchcraft.

 

 

ZANIS reports that Chief Mukonchi of the Swaka speaking people who confirmed the development in an interview today said the all the teachers and their respective families abandoned their school and houses yesterday.

 

 

Chief Mukonchi said the teachers have accused the local people of practicing witchcraft on them and their families.

 

 

“Teachers have run away from Kakwelesa Basic School because of increased witchcraft that they have been subjected to by some of the local people …

 

“They have complained that they experiencing mysterious things and are not sleeping in peace because of witchcraft,” Chief Mukonchi said.

 

 

 

Meanwhile, Chief Mukonchi has threatened to punish and banish from his chiefdom anyone of his subjects found harassing and practicing witchcraft against Civil Servants working in the area.

 

 

The traditional leader said reports of practicing witchcraft against civil servants by some of his subjects were on the increase in his chiefdom.

 

 

 

Chief Mukonchi has urged his subjects to embrace all government workers operating in his chiefdom to foster development.

 

 

“Civil servants are agents of development but if my people continue to harass them in the manner I’m hearing it means they do not want development

 

“I ’m going to ensure that such people are severely dealt with,” Chief Mukonchi said.

 

 

He said teachers and other government workers have chosen to work from the area for the benefit of the community and it is not in order for the same community to harass them.
