Phase 2 construction of Mkushi hospital to complete this month

—–Mkushi District Commissioner (DC), Luka Mwamba, has affirmed that Phase 2 construction of the new District Hospital would be completed before the end of October.

Mr Mwamba disclosed this during the 3rd Quarter District Development Coordinating Committee (DDCC) meeting, saying   the Contractor had assured that the hospital would be handed over to Government by October 28.

He said monitoring findings from the District Works and Supply office had concluded that 90 per cent of the works had been completed, adding that Government had recently paid K600,000 towards completion of Phase 2.

He added that his office would soon apply forceful measures to clear out property developers who had encroached into the new hospital land premises.

Mr Mwamba, however, expressed dissatisfaction with the workmanship that on the mortuary building at Masansa Health Center.

He said that the DDCC was unhappy with the quality of works on this project, charging that the contractor had swindled tax payers’ money by doing shoddy work.

The DC also revealed that Chief Chitina of the Swaka—Lala people had expressed willingness to cooperate with local government authorities and surrender about 3km radius of customary land to the council.

Mr Mwamba expressed hope that talks involving the chief and the District Council would culminate into more residential settlements being upgraded and planned for with services such as running water supply.
