FIVE Ndola models were last Saturday selected to participate in September 4th Miss Zambia Golden Jubilee provisional contest at Kitwe’s Edinburgh Hotel.
The five girls are Melba Shakabozha 19, Michelo Malambo 23, Ndekazi Lungu 23, Chitowa Muwowo 20 and Patricia.
The event which was held at the Ridge Restaurant attracted scores of people from different walks of life who turned out for the dinner and selection of models, one of whom might be the Miss Pageant Zambia, and subsequently represent Zambia, at Miss World this December in London.
But whoever has to represent Zambia must first win image victorious at national level, scheduled for Lusaka on October 21 at Mika Convention Centre.
The event was anchored by top Zambian stand-up comedian Bob Nkosha, who in his usual style kept people laughing with his witty and sometimes, scornful jokes.
Cultural dancers were on hand to keep people entertained.
Contest organiser Victoria Chembe said the five girls would battle it out with other girls from Copperbelt districts, and three from the province would be selected to the grand finale scheduled for Lusaka’s Mika Convention Centre, at which the winner would walk away with K50, 000 and a scholarship to the United States of America (USA).
Tonight’s contest at the Edinburgh would be a defining and refining moment for the beauty pageants, which are all very hopeful. Twelve beauties would battle it out and only a three of them would image victorious for the finale.
The main objective of Pangeant Zambia is to empower women, improve the modeling business, to advocate for tb, hiv/aids treatment and care and sensitising the community on the importance of clean water and sanitation.
