The facelift will be done in order to increase the capacity of the clinic it being the largest health center in the district before a district hospital is built.

ZANIS reports that Pemba District Medical Officer Dr. Brian Habasimbi said this today when Southern province Minister Daniel Munkombwe visited Pemba Main Clinic.

Dr. Habasimbi gave an outline of the new structures that are expected to be constructed as a standard maternity wing, seven new staff houses and renovation of the existing one and a complete fencing of the health center.

He added that the donor will also equip the health center with medical equipment which will be bought locally and abroad such as beds and confirmed that the beds.

Dr. Habasimbi said the project was to be implemented in two months and expected to be handed over to government on 24th October 2014.

He said he hoped that after the renovations are done, the health center should be able to expand its services to the community, both inpatient and outpatient at the facility.

And the Acting provincial medical Officer Dr. Abel Shawa said his office would provide and put up makeshift structures such as tents during the time of renovations.

He said the move will take place in order not to interrupt the medical services given to the people.

And Southern province minister Daniel Munkombwe said the people of Pemba should consider themselves lucky for the ADRA initiative.

Mr. Munkombwe explained that this was because of many developmental projects that were being implemented in the new district by government , mostly.

He said he had so much faith in the contractor that he would implement the project and hand it over to government within the stipulated timeframe as he had done before in other districts.
