—-The second medical jubilee outreach programme for Eastern Province kick-started in Chipata at Chipta General Hospital on Monday, August 25 with an overwhelming flow of patients flocking in to access specialised health care services from
medical experts.

A team of 14 health specialists with various health specialties are in the province to offer specialised health care services to patients
suffering from both medical and surgical conditions in an effort to reduce the number of referrals to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH).

Chipata General Hospital Acting Medical Superintendent, Daniel Magawa, expressed happiness with government’s move to deploy the medical experts
in the provinces as part of the jubilee celebrations.

Dr Magawa told ZANIS in an interview in Chipata that the move will help avail patients with critical conditions access to
specialised services at a cost effective manner.

He said Chipata General Hospital has also just been upgraded as an internship site as part of the process of hospital modernisation.

He said, therefore, as a teaching hospital for intern doctors, the hospital will afford an opportunity for the interns to learn first
hand on various cases that have been gathered.

Dr Magawa said the intern doctors stand to benefit and to strengthen their knowledge on some of the cases which ordinarily they
would not be able to see frequently.

He said all this is in realisation of government’s policy on making sure services are taken as nearer to the community as possible in a cost
effective manner.

Dr Magawa said the presence of the team of specialists at the hospital is an advance in the medical fraternity in the region in
terms of specialist treatment and care that will be availed to members of the public.

Dr Magawa said this is an exciting time for Chipata General Hospital as the team will offer a variety of health services to the people.

He urged residents of Chipata and other surrounding districts to turn in large numbers to access medical attention for the various
ailments they may be suffering from.

The Chipata General Hospital Acting Medical Superintendent also disclosed that this current medical jubilee programme is the second outing for this year for Eastern Province, the first being in the
second quarter of 2014.
