SCORES of Police officers have been deployed to Kasenengwa Constituency in Chipata where a by-election is slated for September 11, this year.
The reinforcement of Police officers is aimed at maintaining law and order during the campaign period and beyond.
Eastern Province Commissioner of Police, Grace Chipalila confirmed in Chipata yesterday that the Police command had deployed officers as a precautionary measure.
Ms Chipalila said the deployment of Police officers to Kasenengwa Constituency should not worry the people because officers were only there to maintain law and order and not to intimidate anyone.

Yes we have sent many Police officers to Kasenengwa so that they maintain order because when we don’t send officers there, we cannot know what is happening in that area,” she said.
On Sunday, some residents in Kasenengwa complained over the high presence of Police officers, saying this could cause political violence.

On September 11, 2014, five constituencies, namely, Mkushi South, Vubwi, Kasenengwa, Solwezi Central and Zambezi West will be holding by-elections.
The Supreme Court nullified the seats that were held by MMD and United Party for National Development for engaging in illegal and corrupt practices.
