Govt releases K114, 000 to women in Kalabo

ZANIS, Kalabo, August 27, 2014, ZANIS —-  Government through the department of Community Development has given a total grant of K114,000 to 12 women clubs in Kalabo district.

Out of the twelve clubs  expected to benefit, seven are from Liuwa and five from Kalabo Central constituencies.

Speaking at the official presentation of cheques, to the clubs, Acting District Commission Inambao Mwiya commended government for the gesture.

Mr Mwiya said the development was testimony enough that the Patriotic Front government was in a hurry to fulfill its campaign promises and to also uplift the living standards of people in Western Province.

He disclosed that the K114, 000 was the biggest grant women clubs ever received in the district so far.

The Acting District commissioner noted that the clubs were gender insensitive and encouraged men to also join the clubs to help women in doing jobs that need men.

Mr Mwiya was happy that despite the women clubs not having received any grant from government, the clubs were involved in different income generating activities adding that the grant would even make them perform better.

And District Community Development Officer Simasiku Simasiku disclosed that out of 108 clubs registered in the district only 95 were activity and others had quit.

Mr Simasiku said so far government had funded 48 clubs in the district which he said was encouraging and motivating to women.

And Liuwa Women Association club Chairperson Jane Wamunyima who spoke on behalf of all clubs thanked government for giving women clubs a huge sum of money to improve their lives.

Ms Wamunyima explained that part of the money would be used on taking their children to school.
