-A fourth year  University of Zambia (UNZA) student in the school of medicine,  Cleaver Muchimba, has called on the Ministry of Health (MOH) to step up the screening process of foreigners entering Zambia in order to prevent the outbreak of the deadly Ebola disease.

Mr Muchimba said it is threatening to hear that some Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) citizens are not being screened at Kasumbalesa border post  despite reports of the outbreak of the disease in that country.

He told ZANIS in an interview in Lusaka today that failure by the Ministry of Health to step up screening measures of foreigners especially in border areas will cause a calamity in this country.

He stated that government should take a proactive stance as opposed to being reactive which he said would be too late once the deadly disease breaks out in Zambia.

Mr Muchimba stated that government should strictly improve the screening process especially in sensitive border posts such as Kasumbalesa, Chirundu, Nakonde, Mokambo and Chavuma to mention but a few.

The Democratic Republic of Congo is also reporting new Ebola cases in a northern town, sparking fears that the deadly virus is expanding far beyond West Africa.

Two people in Gera, DRC, tested positive for Ebola, a government spokesman said  on Sunday.
