Mbala Secondary School has been closed indefinitely due to the outbreak of Typhoid at the learning institution with nine pupils admitted to Hospital.

Mbala District Medical Officer, Christopher Kombe has confirmed the development to ZANIS yesterday, saying his office has since obtained a court order restraining the school authorities from re-opening the school next term until the situation is addressed.

Dr. Kombe attributed the outbreak of typhoid to poor
sanitary conditions saying the ablution blocks have no running water.

He said 16 cases of typhoid related had been recorded at the school from the grade 12 pupils who had remained in School.

He disclosed that out of 11 samples sent for
testing at Mbala General Hospital, nine tested positive for typhoid.

Mbala secondary school has been grappling with poor water and sanitation condition for some time now.
