PFscoops Buleya ward in Kalabo Central Constituency

Kalabo, August 20, 2014 ZANIS—The Patriotic Front (PF) has scooped the Buleya Ward by-election in Kalabo Central constituency.

PF candidate Mubita Moono scored 599 votes beating her closest rival of the United pARFty for National Development (UPND) Namitondo Liuwamwenya who got 306 votes.

Alliance for Democracy and Development (ADD) candidate Simasiku  Pelekelo emerged third with 123 votes, while National Restoration Party (NAREP)‘s Kalezhi Kanona and Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) candidate Sitali Kayama both got 38 votes.

The former ruling party the Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) candidate Muweme Kameya trailed with 29 votes.

A total of 13 ballot papers were rejected out of the 1,146 votes cast.

Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) District Returning Officer Fredrick Siyunda declared Mubita Moono as a duly elected counsellor of Buleya Ward in Kalabo Central Constituency at about 22:52 hours.

Speaking in an interview with ZANIS shortly after being declared winner, Ms Moono assured the residents of Kalabo of unprecedented development in the ward.

Ms Moono has since thanked God and the electorate for the victory saying she will concentrate more on uplifting the lives of the vulnerable in the Ward.

“I will not forget Jesus for making me win this election and first thing I will put all the children that are out of school back and I want to give the people of Buleya clean drinking water and I want to work for the vulnerable children and orphans,” Ms Moono said.

 

Buleya Ward fell vacant after United Party for National Development (UPND) Counsellor   Oliver Mandumbwa resigned to join the civil service in the newly created Sikongo District.

The area was a stronghold of the UPND.
