Kitwe farmers happy with on-going maize marketing exercise

Kitwe, August 19th, 2014, ZANIS —  Farmers in Kitwe have expressed happiness at the progress on the on-going maize marketing exercise.

The farmers say they are also happy with the fast rate at which government is paying them for their maize and the increased price of K70 per 50kg bag.

Speaking in an interview with ZANIS in Kitwe today one of the farmers Patson Mushili,  confirmed that he has been paid for the maize he supplied to the Food Reserve Agency (FRA ).

Mr Mushili said the quick payment of farmers for their maize will enable them to adequately prepare for the next farming season.

He added the FRA maize buying price was even higher than the price at which millers and other private buyers are paying as such farmers will not be exploited by the private buyers as was the case in the previous years.

The Food Reserve Agency started buying maize from farmers in July and famers have already started receiving their money.

Government is trying to pay the farmers as fast possible to enable them prepare for the next farming season.
