——— Petauke District Commissioner Velenasi Banda says women empowerment is critical in addressing gender based violence in homes.

Ms. Banda says women empowerment programmes can be used as an intervention in addressing cases of gender based violence recorded country wide.

She says that cases of gender based violence will soon reduce following governments efforts aimed at empowering the women fork in rural areas.

She saluted government for paying attention to the needs of the women in rural communities.

The District Commissioner said this in an interview at her office yesterday.

 

She added that women have the potential and capacity to contribute to in enhancing food security at community and national level.

Ms Banda expressed happiness with the assistance the ministry of Gender and Child Development is rendering to women clubs in the district.

She noted that the help government is giving to the women clubs will soon start bearing fruits as women implement their various empowerment projects in the district.

Ms Banda has since implored government through the ministry of Gender to consider capturing more women clubs in the district.
