– Milanzi MP Banda pleased with govt’s passion for rural development

—Milanzi Member of Parliament Whiteson Banda says he is happy that the Patriotic Front government has demonstrated a great passion for rural development by connecting electrify to rural areas.

 

Mr. Banda said Milanzi constituency in Katete district in particular has for the first time received electricity supply to Kafumbwe town centre, clinic and the basic school.

 

He said electrifying rural areas is a right step of distributing development equitably.

 

ZANIS reports that the parliamentarian was speaking in a meeting with the Rural Roads Unit ( RRU 0 team led by its Engineer Charles Thole in Katete District, today.

 

He said for a long time people of Kafumbwe would not keep store some drugs at the clinic due to lack of electricity a situation that forced people to walk long distances in order to access quality health care services.

 

The Member of Parliament noted that with the coming of electricity to Kafumbwe people will now see its economic benefits as they will be able to venture into lucrative businesses that will benefit the local community.

He said people have since started taking application forms to ZESCO in order for them to start receiving power in their homes.

 

Meanwhile Mr. Banda has appealed to government to have the Mwandafisi road in Katitula ward to be worked on quickly.

 

He  said his constituency had some roads worked on but that the major road has not been worked on.

 

He said is constituency is largely a farming area hence the need for good roads to enable farmers’ access markets and better their living standards.

 

And Mr. Thole has assured the people of Milanzi constituency that the Rural Roads Unit will be moving on site to work on the Kampambe – Katiula road among others in the area in the next two weeks.

 

He  said Rural Roads Unit has since budgeted to spend about one million Kwacha on the Kampambe Katitula road which has not been graded for the period of over 30 years.

 

He explained that what will be done is a full construction of the road and not rehabilitation.

A stretch of about 16.5 Kilometers will be worked on which will cover Katete Kazimule road to Katiula primary School, said the RRU Engineer .

 

He added that among other roads to be worked on is the Mwandafisi road which has become impassable.

 

He noted that Mwandafisi road and bridge has been neglected and abandoned for a long time.

 

He noted that once the road has been worked on people lives will be transformed as they will have quick access to make parts of the district.
