Chibombo farmers in pay bonanza

Chibombo, August 14, 2014, ZANIS –Government has released over K 900, 000 to pay farmers who have supplied maize to the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) in Chibombo district.

Chibombo District Commissioner Felix Mang’wato has confirmed the release of the money to ZANIS in an interview today.

Mr Mang’wato said government is paying farmers their money through ECO Bank Chibombo branch.

Last week government paid out over K600, 000 to farmers who had earlier supplied maize to FRA in the district.

Mr Mang’wato has since thanked government for its continued commitment to paying farmers their money in time.

He said farmers in the district now have confidence that government will manage to pay everyone early enough to give them adequate time to prepare for the 2014/2015 farming season.

Meanwhile, Mr Mang’wato has confirmed that the FRA has bought over 131, 000 by 50 Kg bags of maize from the farmers in the district.

He said the number was far beyond the 72,000 by 50 Kg bags of maize the agency was targeting to buy in the area.

Mr Mang’wato said the maize quantities show that the district has recorded a bumper harvest as earlier projected by the government.

He noted it was not only the FRA buying maize in the district but that other private buyers have continued to purchase plenty of maize in the area.
