FRA buys over 16,000 bags of maize in Kaputa

Kaputa, July 31, 2014,ZANIS— The Food Reserve Agency (FRA) in Kaputa district has purchased over 16,000 by 50 kilogram bags of maize from farmers since it started buying the commodity last week.

FRA Kaputa District Assistant marketing manager Rannis Ng’onga said the Agency has within a week bought a total of 16,816 bags of maize.

Ms. Ng’onga has also described as smooth the on-going maize marketing season in the district.

She said FRA has also opened all the remaining satellite depots which were allocated to the district.

Ms Ng’ona  added that the Agency has not received any complaints from farmers so far and was hopeful that the trend would continue.

Ms. Ng’onga said this in an interview with ZANIS in Kaputa today.

She explained that FRA has also prepared the first payment voucher for the maize bought which it has submitted to its regional office in Mansa for the processing of payments.

The maize marketing season in Kaputa opened on Wednesday last week after the reduction of moisture content to 12.5 percent and that the district has been allocated 17 satellite depots.

FRA is expected to buy 91,000 by 50 kg bags of maize from farmers in the district.
