WORLD Boxing Council (WBC) bantamweight silver champion Catherine Phiri will step into the ring on November 22 to defend her title against a Japanese boxer.
WBC welterweight international champion Charles Manyuchi will face a boxer from the United States of America.
Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotions (OQBP) director of operations Christopher Malunga said at a briefing in Lusaka yesterday that the pugilists’ opponents will be announced later.

He said OQBP will stage a warm-up tournament in Northern or Eastern provinces.
“Preparations for the fights are underway. The boxers’ opponents will be announced after signing of contracts,” Malunga said.
He said the budget for the event set for Lusaka’s Government Complex is K674, 615.
“Out of the budgeted money, K297, 750 will go towards purse money for all boxers while the other K376,000 will be used for other logistics. Half of the budget will be in kind while the other half in cash form.
“We will make sure that the boxers fighting in the main bouts sign a contract with Oriental and it will be unveiled to lessen complications,” Malunga said.
Phiri knocked out Pia Mazelenik of Germany to win the WBC bantamweight silver title on March 15 while Manyuchi beat Patrick Allotey of Ghana.
Meanwhile, Catherine is happy to face the Japanese boxer.
She said she will work hard to defend the title.
“I am not scared. It’s very important to fight different boxers because through that you get a lot of exposure and experience,” Catherine said.
And Catherine’s coach Mike ‘Weaver’ Zulu said the two boxers will prepare adequately for the challenge ahead.
In supporting bouts Mbiya Kanku of Oriental will face Issiah Chilufya of New Vision in the welterweight category, bantamweight Pethias Chisenga of Ever Green will fight Martin Manda of Oriental while Gibon Kamota and Bernard Mwango both of Oriental will exchange blows in the bantamweight category.
Lolita Muziyo and Chitalu Mulenga both from Oriental will face off in the women’s welterweight category.
