Lundazi District Council Chairperson, Aaron Manda, has called for total discipline, transparency and accountability among council workers and councellors if Lundazi was to develop as a district.

Mr Manda warned that his office will not tolerate any indiscipline and corrupt council worker or councellor, saying the vice retards development if not stopped.

He made the call in Lundazi May 12th when he opened a Full Council meeting held in the Council Chamber.

Civic Leader challenged council management and councillors to develop an open-door policy that will allow stakeholders and members of the public who are partners in development to interact and share developmental ideas that could help develop the district.

Meanwhile, some councillors in Lundazi yesterday condemned the District Water, Sanitation and Health Education (D-WASHE) committee for working in isolation without involving councillors in identifying and drilling water boreholes in their wards.

They were surprised to hear that the D-WASHE committee under the local authority was tasked to drill 13 boreholes in various wards of Lundazi Central, Lumezi and Chasefu Constituencies and some    without their knowledge.

Vuu Ward Councillor, Godfrey Mapili, said it was surprising to hear that three attempts were done to drill boreholes, but confusion arose from villagers and D-WASHE decided to re-allocate the boreholes from Vuu Ward to neighboring  Wachitangachi ward in chief Zumwanda without the knowledge of the area councillor.

Mr Mapili observed that lack of consultation by D-WASHE committee members has led to some Wards receiving more boreholes while other wards received no borehole, a situation he described as unproductive and frustrating because borehole drilling was a community driven exercise.

But Council Secretary, Boyd Kaoma , apologised to the councillors on behalf  of the D-WASHE committee for its failure to consult and involve local civic leaders in its borehole drilling exercise.

Mr Kaoma said consultation and involvement of stakeholders was paramount for success of any community-driven project.
