Mukula tree dealers appear in Serenje court

The Chinese national and three others who were arrested by police in Serenje over the weekend for the illegal cutting of Mukula tree yesterday appeared in Serenje Magistrate court and pleaded not guilty to charges.
Li Ke, 28, a chef at T and H, Chinese Construction Company of Chamba Valley in Lusaka and his co accused, Derrick Daka, 37, a driver at the same company but of house number 609 Chamba Valley, Lusaka, are jointly charged with unlawful dealing in forest products contrary to the Forest Act of the Laws of Zambia.

Particulars of the offence alleged that Li and Daka on May 11, 2014 in Serenje District, jointly and whilst acting together, did deal in forest products, namely Mukula tree, without licence.

The duo said they understood the charge but denied having committed the offence.

And Moses Chisenga 42 a businessman of house number 54 Old Ibolelo Compound in Serenje and Moses Siame 40, businessman of house number 1016 Line Messenger in Serenje are charged with unlawful cutting of forest products contrary to the Laws of Zambia.
Particulars of the offence are that Chisenga and Siame, on May 10, 2014 in Serenje district, jointly and while acting together, did cut forest products, namely Mukula tree, without licence.

Chisenga and Siame also said they understood the charges but denied having committed the crime.

Magistrate Fidelis Ngosa entered pleas of not guilty in respect of both suspects.

The court set Wednesday May 15 as dates for commencement of trial in both cases.
