Three people have died on the spot while one is nursing injuries in the Solwezi general hospital after being hit by a motor vehicle on independence avenue.
The accident happened on May 6th between 09:30 and 10 hours near Solwezi Trades Training Institute.
This when a taxi driver driving a Toyota corolla registration number AJC 4201 tried to run away from traffic police officers who were pursuing him for contravening.
Eyewitnesses told ZANIS that the taxi driver lost control and hit into a cyclist who died on the spot before hitting three other pedestrians, killing two of them including a pregnant woman.
The same eyewitnesses said the driver ran away after realizing that he had hit and killed three people.
When contacted, Solwezi general hospital public relations officer Levy Muna confirmed receiving three dead bodies of two males and one female and one injured person from the accident.
However, Mr Muna said the three deceased are yet to be identified and has appealed to members of the public to come forward and identify the bodies.
This is the second that a police car chase has ended up tragic in Solwezi.
On Christmas Eve last year one traffic police officer died in a similar after a vehicle he was using with two his colleagues overturned as they chased after a Jitotwe Bus whose driver had committed a traffic offence.
