THE Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority (ZICTA) has introduced a domain name system security extensions to secure internet infrastructure.
ZICTA managing director Margaret Mudenda said the authority had introduced a domain name system to secure internet infrastructure in the country.
Ms Mudenda said the domain name system security extensions were a suite of internet engineering task force specifications for securing certain kinds of information.
She further said the threats posed to the internet had raised cyber security concerns hence the introduction of the domain name system security extensions.
Ms Mudenda said with the review of the legal framework governing the information and communication technology in Zambia, ZICTA had been granted the mandate to take charge of the country’s code top level domain.
The domain name system security extensions allow users to have more confidence in the online activities and help to ensure communication with the correct website or service.
“Internet consumers are often faced with various internet security issues and cyber-attacks such as redirection to malicious websites hence the introduction of the domain name system security extensions,”
Ms Mudenda said.
She said this in a speech read for her by ZICTA director of technology and engineering Patrick Mutimushi during the domain name system security extensions workshop in Lusaka on Wednesday.
Ms Mudenda said cyber-attacks resulted in leakage of passwords, one’s privacy, and loss of organisation’s commercial data and also impacted on critical services.
