ACC arrests court clerk

Solwezi, February 25 , 2014, ZANIS…The Anti  Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested and charged a Solwezi subordinate court clerk and a prison warder for corrupt practices involving K4,000.00

ACC Public Relations Manager Timothy Moono confirmed the arrests to the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in a telephone interview in Solwezi today.

Mr Moono  identified the suspects as Songwe Malama a court clerk and Charles Mutale a prison warder both of Solwezi.

Mr Moono said the duo were arrested in Solwezi yesterday and have been charged with one count of corrupt practices by a public officer contrary to section 19 subsection one as read with section 40 of the Anti Corruption Act number 38 of 2010.

He said the duo on dates unknown but between 1st and 31st January 2012 in Solwezi corruptly solicited for the sum of K4,000 and received K2,500 as cash gratification from Wilfred Chakufola .

Mr Moono said the money was given to the duo through his relative as an inducement for themselves in order for them to facilitate the release of Chakufola who was at Solwezi prison for a criminal offence.

Mr Moono said Malama and Mutale have since been released on bond and will appear in court on 3rd March, 2014.
