Good Morning Dear Friends,

Today, Before I depart for the final day of the African Union (AU) Heads of State and Government Summit, I wish to share with you our Government’s progress on the construction of selected road works within Southern Province. As of December 2013 a total of 1,341 jobs were created during the on-going construction works of 780.5km of roads which is costing a total of K480 million as follows:

1. Bottom Road: works on-going on the 131.50km at 40% progress;

2. Periodic maintenance of the Livingstone – Sesheke Road: works on-going at 21% progress;

3. Rehabilitation of Livingstone City Roads: works on-going at 95% progress;

4. Construction of a Cast in-situ- Box Culvert on the Chisekesi – Chikuni Road across the Magoye River in Monze District: works on-going at 96% progress;

5. Simoonga-Sekute-Makunka-Kanchele and Nyawa: works on-going at 35% progress;

6. Mukuyo Chisangano via Bbondo to Chamwe: works on-going at 30% progress;

7. Siabawi – Kanchindu –Sulwengondo: works on-going;

8. Siamatika – Sinangile: works on-going at 26% progress;

9. Simangilile – Simaundu – Kawila: works on-going at 10% progress;

10. Bauza to Baanga: works on-going at 25% progress;

11. Kalomo Minning Roads: works on-going at 98% progress.

12. 245km of Various Feeder Roads in Choma District: on-going;

The construction of key roads such as the Bottom road will stimulate tourism and agricultural development in Gwembe, Siavonga, Sinazongwe, Zimba and Chirundu Districts in the Southern Province and thus create jobs for our people. This important road link underlines our Government’s desire and determination to develop critical road infrastructure in the country in order to create a better Zambia for all as enshrined in the PF Manifesto.
