Charlotte Scott commends Africa Directions

Wife of Vice President Charlotte Scott has commended Africa Directions for the role it is playing to empower and guide young Zambian youths.

 

Speaking when she officiated at a strategic planning workshop for Africa Directions in Lusaka today, Dr. Scott said the youths were the engine room for transforming society into a prosperous one.

 

“What you are doing to encourage young people to stand on their feet, to empower them is extremely important. Your efforts are very vital,” she said.

 

She said government cannot employ everyone but would always support youth initiatives that promote self reliance and that young people should be resourceful by engaging in sectors such agriculture to earn a living.

 

She urged the organisation to explore possibilities of partnering with stakeholders that can provide internship programmes to enhance youth skills development.

 

And speaking earlier, Africa Directions Executive Director Mark Chilongu said his organisation is strategically placed in partnering with government to implement youth oriented and youth driven programmes that can offer meaningful interventions.

 

Mr. Chilongu said his organisation intends to enhance the provision of sexual reproductive health services and entrepreneurship training to supplement government efforts of meeting youth aspirations, skills development and reduce youth unemployment.

 

Mr. Chilongu also said Africa Directions will embark on advocacy campaigns in order to hold the government accountable to the promises it has made to youths and at the same time help the it in boosting the economy of the country.
