–Chadiza District Commissioner, Paul Phiri, has noted that  construction of the Chadiza/Chipata road under the Link Zambia project will lead to massive development in the district which has remained one of the least developed in Eastern Province.

Mr Phiri noted that upgrading of the road to bituminous standard will lead to increased economic activities that will subsequently enhance development in the area.

“The life style of people and their mentality will permanently change because of the road that government is constructing at a very huge cost. Economic activities will increase and there shall be new and morden housing projects that will come to the area,” he said.

The DC said the Link Zambia 8000 project is President Sata’s large infrastructural development programme that will see Chadiza district being linked to Chipata, Katete and Vubwi districts.

Mr Phiri said Chadiza district has also been given about 18 Km of the urban roads that will be upgraded to bituminous standard while 40 Km of the feeder roads will also be done.

He expressed happiness with works on the 40 km feeder roads project that have since commenced in the area.

He said the upgrading of the urban roads has also commenced but that the contractor is slow due to inadequate machinery and that because of heavy rains being experienced in the area.
