Chavuma motorists warned

Chavuma, January 30, ZANIS–Police in Chavuma have warned motorist failing to observe traffic rules of stern action.

Chavuma police station Officer-In-Charge Silata Simata said the police will deal with motorists disregarding traffic rules in a bid to reduce road traffic accidents in the district that have since increased.

Mr Simata said police will also deal with motorists operating without drivers licenses but he was quick to appeal to the Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) to conduct routine tests so that motorists can obtain drivers licenses.

He observed that most drivers in the district are operating without drivers licenses because the nearest RTSA office is only situated in Solwezi which is close to 600 kilometres away.

Meanwhile, police in Chavuma have embarked on an exercise to sensitize the community on the dangers of dealing in petroleum products illegally.

Mr Simata said all those found dealing in such products will be arrested as it is not only against the law but also puts the lives of many innocent people at risk.

The district has no service station, a situation that has resulted in rampant illegal sale of petroleum products.

The nearest service station is in Zambezi district which is about 85 kilometers from Chavuma.
