FOUR members of the same family, including a set of two-year-old twins have died after being struck by lightning.
The bodies of the four of Ofa village in Chief Chiwala’s area in Kafulafuta were charred when lightning struck the hut where they sought shelter from the rains.
Copperbelt acting commissioner of police Joyce Kasosa confirmed the incident yesterday and named the victims as Harriet Mushimuta, 61, Magdalene Lameki, 22, and the two-year-old twins as Eunice and Maggie Kasempa.
The incident happened around 16 hours on Sunday.
“We have received an unfortunate report of four members of the same family in Kafulafuta who were struck by lightning on Sunday. The four died on the spot and they have since been buried,” Ms Kasosa added.
She said the charred bodies of the deceased were only picked up from the scene on Monday by well-wishers,  adding that one of the twins’ died whilst she was on the back of her mother.
The four were buried yesterday.
