330 people employed under ZESCO project in Itezhi Tezhi

–ZESCO Limited has disclosed that 330 jobs have so far been created for the local people in Itezhi Tezhi district in the ongoing construction works of the 2 by 6 Mega Watts Hydro power project.

ZESCO Spokesperson Henry Kapata disclosed that the new project will also reduce load shedding and power outages which will lead to significant economic benefits and better standard of living for the local people.

Mr Kapata added that the new project will also facilitate adequate power supply for mining and farming companies in the districts.

He told ZANIS in an interview in Lusaka today that the project is expected to officially resume commercial operations in November next year 2015.

Mr Kapata further disclosed that the water supply, sewerage system, upgrade of Kataba 33/11 kilovolts and the 100 kilovolts VA diesel generator set for the hospital has so far been completed.

The ZESCO spokesperson has since stated that part of ZESCO revenues, 0.5 percent will go towards social amenities in the district such as health, education, road construction among others.

The $250 million power project which started in 2011 is expected to be completed within the period of 41 months.

And Mr Kapata said the Itezhi Tezhi power project is of significant impact to the area because of the increased mining and agriculture activities currently going on in the district.

He also explained that under same the project, ZESCO will increase power supply to the district from 1 Mega volts to 10 Mega volts the development he said will lead to a better standard of living and increased economic activities in the district.

He said the power utility company remains committed to providing safe and reliable electricity to all Zambians in order to improve the quality of life.
