First Lady Christine Kaseba has said China has greatly contributed to Zambia’s economic growth through infrastructure development, academic exchange programmes and cultural preservation.

Dr. Kaseba said Zambia’s continued economic gains cannot go without the mention of the support from the Peoples Republic of China.

The First Lady expressed happiness with the strong relationship that exists between the two countries adding that the impact China has made on Zambia will remain historical for many ages to come.

Dr. Kaseba was speaking when she officiated at the 2014 Chinese Spring Temple Fair in Lusaka today.

The Chinese Spring Festival, also called Lunar New Year is one of the traditional festivals, the most important festival for Chinese people world over where all families come together.

First Zambian President Kenneth Kaunda, members of the diplomatic cops and senior government officials attended the function.

And Dr. Kaseba has said Zambia has a lot to learn from China in terms of cultural promotion and preservation.

She has since called on government through the Ministry of Chiefs and Traditional Affairs to ensure that a practical cultural preservation programme is put in place.

Dr. Kaseba has however expressed hope that the new education policy of the reintroducing local languages in schools will assist in preserving culture and heritage.

Meanwhile, Chinese Ambassador to Zambia Zhou Yuxiao has praised former president Dr Kenneth Kaunda for strengthening the relationship of the two countries since Zambia’s independence in 1964.

Ambassador Yuxiao hailed Dr. Kaunda for playing a key role in the transformation of the Zambia-China relationship as evidenced by the three governments which have carried it over since he left office in 1991.

He reaffirmed China’s commitment to promote a strong cultural exchange programme with Zambia especially this year when the country prepares to celebrate its 50th independence anniversary.
