Private sector should help empower women-Wina

Minister of Gender and Child Development Inonge Wina has appealed to the private sector to help government in empowering women in the country.

Mrs. Wina said it was not the responsibility of government alone to empower women around the country but also of the private sector and the communities.

She told ZANIS in an interview in Lusaka today the empowerment of women was important because it could help improve livelihoods of people in society.

She has however expressed happiness with private companies such as Lumwana Copper Mines for supporting women with empowerment.

Mrs. Wina further said government has done a lot to empower women in the past years hence the private sector should now come on board to help empower these people.

She said the private sector businesses that were in food processing should help by buying food stuffs such as tomato from the women.

Ms. Wina also called on the private sector to support women in business and also promote entrepreneurship.
