Congolese authorities release fishermen

Mansa, January16, 2014, ZANIS…….. Authorities in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)  have released four out of the six Zambian fishermen that were arrested for illegal fishing.

 

The four were released after paying a fine of K550.00 each.

 

Disclosing the matter to ZANIS in Mansa today, Luapula Province Police Commissioner Malcolm Mulenga said the four are since back in Zambia.

 

Mr. Mulenga named the four as Gabby Mulenga, 19 of Kaweme village, Goodson Ng’onga ,23 of Mpuya village, Mathews Chitambo 32 of Seya Kapema and Sizo Mwansa 33 of Ndaso village in Chief Kazembe’s area of Mwansabombwe district.

The authorities in the Democratic Republic of Congo recently arrested six Zambian fishermen for fishing at Makandwe fishing camp in the Zambian side of the Luapula river despite the fish ban being in effect.

 

The six were detained at Kashobe Prison in the Democratic Republic of Congo after they were caught at Makandwe fishing camp after they were caught fishing on the Zambian side of the Luapula river.
