ZAMBIAN based regional carrier Proflight Zambia successfully launched its second international route yesterday (October 23), making its maiden flight from Lusaka to Dar-es-Salaam in Tanzania.

Proflight Director of Government and Industry Affairs Capt. Philip Lemba and marketing Manager Hellen Mwamba joined passengers on the inaugural flight, which was greeted in Dar by dignitaries and a celebratory reception.

The three-times-a-week service firmly establishes the airline as a regional airline, with its hub in Lusaka.

The Dar-es-Salaam route follows the launch of flights from Lusaka to Lilongwe in Malawi in June.

Flights to Tanzania depart from Lusaka’s Kenneth Kaunda International Airport on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, returning the same days. Return fares start from K3,502 including taxes.

Flight P00020 departs from Lusaka at 08:00hrs on Mondays and Fridays, and at 12:00hrs on Wednesdays, arriving at Dar-es-Salaam’s Julius Nyerere International Airport at 12:20hrs and 16:20hrs respectively, making it a journey of three hours and 20 minutes, given the one-hour time difference in Tanzania.

The return P00021 flight leaves Dar-es-Salaam on the same days at 13:00hrs on Mondays and Fridays and 17:00hrs on Wednesdays, arriving in Lusaka at 15:20hrs and 19:20hrs respectively, enabling smooth connections onto Proflight’s afternoon flights to Mfuwe, Livingstone and Ndola.

The Tanzanian capital of Dar-es-Salaam is an important seaport for regional trade and provides a gateway for Zambian traders importing goods such as vehicles. The city is also the gateway for the exotic holiday location of Zanzibar.

Conversely, the new service will bring business and leisure passengers to Zambia, including traders wishing to do business, and tourists combining a beach holiday with a safari excursion.

It addition to the new route to Tanzania, which will be operated by the airline’s 29-seat Jetstream 41 aircraft, Proflight will be increasing the frequency of its Lilongwe flights from three-times-a-week to four flights a week from November 16, operating on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

Proflight also flies to nine domestic destinations within Zambia: Lusaka, Livingstone, Mfuwe, Lower Zambezi, Ndola, Solwezi, Chipata, Mansa and Kasama, with Mongu being added to the schedule from November 27.

The airline is now considering services to Harare, Tete and Johannesburg, subject to regulatory approval.

The airline celebrates 22 years of operation this year and prides itself in providing a safe, reliable, efficient and friendly service.

Proflight Zambia was established in 1991 and is Zambia’s only scheduled airline. From its base in Lusaka it flies to Livingstone, Mfuwe, Lower Zambezi, Ndola, Solwezi, Chipata, Mansa and Kasama, and to Lilongwe in Malawi.

The airline prides itself in providing a safe, reliable, efficient and friendly service, and offering good value to business and leisure travellers locally and internationally.

The airline operates a Boeing 737 aircraft; two 29-seater Jetstream 41 aircraft; three 18-seater Jetstream 32; and three 12-seater Cessna Caravan C208 aircraft.
