MTN South Africa has received the first round of bids for its base transceiver stations (BTS) in Zambia and Rwanda, TMT Finance reports. According to the article, MTN is aiming to finalise the sale of around 400-600 BTS in Zambia and 1,000 towers in Rwanda by the end of the year and the potential deal is expected to generate around USD 100 million to USD 200 million. Unidentified sources have disclosed that tower companies ATC, IHS, Eaton and Helios have all expressed their interest in the auction. An unnamed private equity investor with experience in the US market had also reportedly entered the race, although sources claim that the private equity firm had been unable to secure the required funding from banks.
