On-loan Southampton striker Emmanuel Mayuka says he is working hard to ensure that he returns from France a better player.

The Zambian frontman, yet to score in four Sochaux appearances, joined the Ligue 1 club on a season-long loan after failing to impress in his limited opportunities at St Mary’s last season.

Mayuka, who has now been joined by his former international coach Herve Renard at Sochaux, said: “My aim is to play play regular football with Southampton in the future. That is the big picture.”

Renard left his Zambia post on Monday after completing a short-term deal with the struggling French Ligue 1 club.

The Frenchman was in charge for Zambia’s stunning African Nations Cup win in 2012 which catapulted Mayuka into the spotlight and persuaded the Saints to sign him to a five-year deal from Young Boys.
