Essa, Singh enter Monze rally

AFRICAN rally champion, Mohammed Essa and contender Jassy Singh are among 16 drivers that have confirmed participation in this Saturday’s finale of the national motor rally championship to be held in Monze.

With the title already secured by hometown favourite Kenny Mukosa, the Monze rally would present a perfect opportunity for him to wrap up the season in grand style when he competes against the likes of Essa and Jassy, who will be using the rally to prepare for the upcoming final Africa Rally Championship (ARC) set for Madagascar.

Others expected to compete in the rally are Paul Monge, the Ticklay drivers Azim, Farook and Yasdani, Dani Beani, Tufail Dalal, Chimanga Biyela, Noel Masadza, Walter Wasamunu, Kelvin Mahlanga, Muna Singh junior, Shabbir Amin and Geoffrey Chulu.

Mukosa has an unassailable lead of 54 points and is followed by Farook on 26 points. Yasdani is on 24 points with Dalal on 23 points.

Essa is fifth on 22 points, the same as Azim, while Jassy is on 20 points, as Ashish Patel, Amin, Biyela and Chulu are on 17, 16, 12 and nine points, respectively.

Zambia Motor Sports Association (ZMSA) vice-president Sam Ching’ambu said the champion together his navigators would be officially crowned during the Monze rally which would be the sixth round of the national championship series.

Ching’ambu thanked the sponsors who had come on board, including the fans and the media, for making the 2013 rally season a huge success.

He said ZMSA was looking forward to a safe and enjoyable event in Monze.

He named the sponsors as Puma Energy, Madison General, Zambia State Insurance Corporation, Pembe Milling, Mwalimu Investments, Group 3 Security, Monze Fire Brigade, Monze Mission Hospital, Terry Jones Farm, Quentte Farm, Derick Howes Farm, Luzinga Farm and Prison Service Farm.
