Government has launched the long awaited Mineral Resources Development Policy that seeks to re-orient the mining sector in order to create a competitive, thriving and sustainable mining industry that will benefit both the investors and the people of Zambia.

Speaking during the launch in Lusaka this morning, Mines and Energy Minister, Christopher Yaluma, says the policy will increase the participation by Zambians in the mining sector as mine owners, suppliers and employees.

Mr. Yaluma says through this policy, the PF government aims to put in place measures that will ensure increased participation at all levels.

He adds that one way in which the mining industry contributes to the development of the country is through revenue generation for the treasury; therefore, this policy will see an increased government revenue generation.

Mr. Yaluma adds that the implementation of the policy will achieve the desired results as it incorporates the aspirations of all stake holders.

He says the policy was developed in close consultation with the stakeholders to ensure that their views are taken into account.
