Govt launches point of sale implant project for non tax revenue

Government has launched a point of sale and teller implant pilot project for the collection of non tax revenue.

The project which will be implemented by Barclays Bank starting next month, will when complete facilitate government to collect non tax revenue in a swift manner straight to the main treasury at the Bank of Zambia with minimal or no delay.

The project which will facilitate the use of both local and international visa Debit cards will be first rolled out at the Immigration Department and at the Road Transport and Safety Agency RTSA.

Speaking this morning at the official launch of the project, Finance Minister, Alexander Chikwanda observed that the implementation of the point of sale and teller implant pilot project is part of the Treasury’s determination to enhance the collection of domestic revenue.

Speaking earlier, Secretary to the Treasury Fredson Yamba disclosed that at Passport and Citizenship offices, the project will be first rolled out in Lusaka, Kabwe, Ndola, Livingstone and Chipata.

Mr. Yamba notes that the project which was also used during the hosting of the just ended UNWTO general assembly will also be extended to other parts of the country starting January 2013.

And speaking at the same event,Barclays Bank Zambia Managing Director Saviour Chibiya observed that the implementation of the sale and teller implant pilot project for the collection of non tax revenue is a significant step forward in the financial and public sector of the country.

Mr. Chibiya has also pledged his Bank’s commitment to partnering with government in fostering economic and social development in the country.
