Diggers brace for Arrows test

‘MEN At Work’ Diggers today take on second-placed Red Arrows in a 2013 Buildcon sponsored Zambia Rugby Union (ZRU) national rugby league (NRL) Week 16 title decider that will see the winner crowned champion.

The defending champions are top with 60 points, while Arrows are second with 58 points making this tie set for the Yotam Muleya Grounds in the Lusaka Showgrounds a must-watch encounter expected to produce sparks.

Both teams head into this clash against a background of victories last weekend with Diggers having trounced helpless Mufulira 74-7 as Arrows saw off noisy neighbours ‘Powerhouse’ Lusaka 27-0.

While on paper Diggers are favourites to win the match and claim a second successive title, Arrows should not be written off especially that they claimed a 20-13 victory at the Kitwe side home ground.

Diggers coach Robertson ‘Plough’ Kang’ongwe would be expecting a strong show from player maker Beneya Mukwamba, Kabwe Musonda, Philip Kamanga, Sam Lukonde, Kaluba Chilundami, Ackim Mushota, Ntumba Besa, Shaka Phiri and Jessie Mazabuka, who were key in last week’s victory.

Arrows, back-to-back winners in 2010 and 2011, on the other hand have players who can win the club a third title having surrendered the championships to Diggers, who had endured a five-year reign without a title.

In the likes of Daniel Sakala, Terry Kaushiku, Chungu Siulapwa, who were the architects of the 20-13 win, alongside Nigel Chibwe, William Daka, Arrows should be bubbling with confidence to win the match especially that they have an edge playing at home.
