ZAMBIA striker Jacob Mulenga is a doubt for this Friday’s Crucial 2014 Brazil World Cup qualifier against Ghana in Kumasi.
And Chipolopolo skipper Christopher Katongo, Belgian-based striker Roger Kola, Russian-based midfielder Chisamba Lungu and the Democratic Republic of Congo based quartet joined camp in Johannesburg yesterday.
England-based striker Emmanuel Mayuka is expected in camp today.
Mulenga, who campaigns for Dutch side FC Utrecht is nursing a hamstring injury.
According to RTV Utrecht, Mulenga got injured on Friday during training and missed Sunday’s league match against PEC Zwolle.
Mulenga scored three goals in the World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Sudan in June.
He scored in the 4-0 bashing of Lesotho on June 8 and a week later he was on target in the 1-1 draw with Sudan.
Mulenga shook the net in the 1-1 draw with Senegal in an international friendly on August 14 in Paris.
And Football Association of Zambia communications manager Erick Mwanza said coach Herve Renard had a fullhouse during yesterday’s training session.
The TP Mazembe players in camp are Hichani Himoonde, Rainford Kalaba, Nathan Sinkala and Stopilla Sunzu.
And national team doctor Joseph Kabungo said striker Collins Mbesuma is recuperating from an ankle injury.
“He (Mbesuma) trained in the morning and we will keep monitoring him,” Kabungo said.
Meanwhile, VICTOR KUMWENDA reports that midfielder Kalaba on Sunday scored a late stunner in a 2013 Orange Confederation Cup group stage match against Tunisian side CA Bizertin.
Mazembe edged CA Bizertin 1-0 in a return leg at Frederic Kibassa Stadium in Lubumbashi to keep alive their chances of qualifying to the semi-finals.
Kalaba scored his debut goal in the Confederation Cup five minutes before time after making a solo run from the centre, dribbling his markers before unleashing a powerful shot inside the area.
Midfielder Sinkala, defenders Sunzu and Himoonde played 90 minutes in this tightly contested encounter.
The win pushed Mazembe, who host Entente Setif in a fortnight, to the summit of Group B on seven points.
KAA Gent Zambian forward Kola was unused substitute in a 1-0 win over Mons in the Belgium Jupilar league.
Chipolopolo goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene was outstanding in Mamelodi Sundowns 1-0 win over Golden Arrows in the Absa premiership.
