SOME residents of Kantolomba Township in Ndola have expressed concern at the increased levels of crime in the area.
The area has been witnessing incidences of crime on a daily basis a situation which has become a source of worry in the community.
Residents who spoke through the resident neighbourhood crime prevention officer, Charles Simpokolwe said the increased thefts in the area were worrying.
Mr Simpokolwe said thieves had taken advantage of lack of a police post and were using the area as a hideout.
“Our police post was closed and because of that, we have seen an increase in crime here, the situation is bad,” Mr Simpokolwe said.
He said the area was no longer secure and that the community was living in fear because of the rampant crime that was taking place.
He appealed to the police on the Copperbelt to consider conducting an operation in the area so that they could witness what was happening.
Ms Muyunda Mubita said the nearest police post was Lubuto which was quiet a distance for the community.
She said it was even risky to report a crime in the night becuase one risked being attacked.
But acting Copperbelt Province police chief Joyce Kasosa advised the residents to register their complaints to the Ndola District police command.
